This will be a PRN position.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES :
Measures electrical activity in peripheral nerves, using electromyography (EMG) instruments, for use by physician in diagnosing neuromuscular disorders. Responsible for the preparation of the patient, conducting NCS and the collection of information pertinent to the interpretation of test. Explains procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and relieve anxieties during testing. Operates EMG instrument to record electrical activity in peripheral nerves. Monitors response, measures and records time and distance between stimulus and response.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Conduct patient education of procedure to be performed. Explain procedure to patient to obtain cooperation and relieve anxieties during test.
- Document patient data into EMG system. Attaches electrodes to electrode cables or leads connected to EMG instrument and selects nerve conduction mode on EMG.
- Attaches surface recording electrodes to extremity in which activity is being measuring to detect electronic impulse.
- Measure and records time and distance between stimulus and response, manually or using computer, and calculates velocity of electrical impulse in peripheral nerve.
- Measures electrical activity in peripheral nerves, using electromyography (EMG) instrument.
- Removes electrodes from patient upon conclusion of test and cleans electrode paste from skin.
- Maintain EMG room and supplies. Order medical supplies needed for performing EMG procedures.
- Clean beds and computer with proper cleaning agent.
Requirements : EDUCATION :
Certified Neurodiagnostic Technician
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of three years NCS experience required.
REQUIREMENTS :
Experience using Cadwell Sierra Wave 2 machine helpful. Must be able to perform NCS independently and be able to follow detailed instructions on all procedures. Ability to interpret data and communicate findings. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to establish good rapport with patients, public and staff.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS :
ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS :
Work is performed in a busy office environment. Frequent contact with employees and patients.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS :
The employees must occasionally lift and or move up to 10 pounds. While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle, and feel equipment.
