What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025-26 Secondary Counselor position at Piedmont High School?
Qualifications: Credentials, as required by the State of Oklahoma.
Reports to: Site Principal and/ or Assistant Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assumes a leadership role in planning, developing, and initiating an effective developmental guidance program for the school in cooperation with the principal.
- Communicates the guidance program and its range of services to staff, families, and the community.
- Assists and facilitates the development of a plan of action with parents and teachers to better meet the needs of a student who is having educational, social, emotional or disciplinary difficulty.
- Maintains a daily schedule of guidance/counseling.
- Establishes, plans, and leads small group activities, focus groups, and support groups based on student need.
- Works with students on an individual basis in solution to personal problems.
- Assists with referrals of students with outside agencies.
- Assists in identifying and facilitating referral of students for special services.
- Assists in identifying and facilitating referral of students for Section 504 plans.
- Maintains and supervises implementation of Section 504 Plans.
- Responsible for student enrollment (on-site, career-tech, and concurrent) and schedule changes.
- Monitors graduation credits of students.
- Notifies students and parents/guardians of credit deficiencies and provides information about recovery programs.
- Provides information and assists students with scholarships, financial aid and college admission.
- Coordinates college and military recruitment events at school.
- Coordinates and organizes awards assemblies and scholarship recognition.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves on committees as required.
- Completes reports and other school-related paperwork as required within stated timelines.
- Coordinates the distribution, administration and inventory of district and state-mandated testing in accordance with state and local regulations as assigned by the building administrator.
- Abides by all site, district, state and federal laws, policies and procedures, including maintaining accurate, complete and correct records.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Number of calendar days and compensation based on approved certified schedule and employee work calendars
Evaluation: Evaluation by site principal and/ or assistant principal in accordance with BOE Policy DNA Teacher Evaluation
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, squat frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
- Ability to walk or move long distances from location to location around the building multiple times each day.
