Description : JOB PURPOSE :
Performs sample processing and exempt screening and monitoring tests in accordance with CMS (CLIA
88), OSHA and other applicable regulatory, established standards as may be applicable. Performs
venipunctures at entities where applicable, and obtains / prepares blood specimens in accordance with
Piedmont policies and procedures. Assists technical staff in non-clinical tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Performs blood collection in a manner consistent with established laboratory policies and
procedures at entities where applicable
2. Communicates accurate instructions, information, and overall assistance to customers
3. Complies with regulations of all existing applicable state, federal and regulatory agencies.
4. Inspects specimens, receives in the Laboratory system and delivers to the appropriate area in a
timely and accurate manner
5. Performs instrument maintenance when applicable
6. Performs clerical duties including answering the phone, copying, faxing and maintaining
departmental logs
7. Assists with the ordering, maintaining, and stocking of supplies
8. Assists in performing and recording routine maintenance checks
9. Participates in departmental QA, collects data, prepares reports, and compiles statistics as
directed
10. Demonstrates proficiency in the Laboratory Information System.
11. May perform EKGs
12. Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED :
High School graduate or GED
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
None
MINIMUM LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW :
None
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
One (1) year of experience as a phlebotomist preferred
Phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ASPT, NCA or equivalent agency is preferred.
Basic knowledge of venipuncture / phlebotomy is preferred.
Working knowledge of clinical laboratory processes is preferred.
Experience in performing EKGs is preferred.
Experience working in healthcare or clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
