Job Summary:
Piedmont Metals is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) - Quality Control Inspector with experience in structural steel fabrication. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all welding and fabrication processes meet quality standards, specifications, and industry regulations before shipment. This position requires expertise in welding inspection, adherence to AISC standards, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of quality in our manufacturing processes.
Essential Functions:
- Perform visual welding inspections to ensure compliance with AWS D1.1, AISC, and company standards.
- Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as VT, MT, and UT to assess weld quality and detect defects.
- Inspect and test raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Utilize measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and blueprints to verify dimensional accuracy.
- Identify and document quality issues, non-conformances, and deviations, and work with production teams to implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed inspection records and generate reports on quality control findings.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure adherence to industry standards such as AWS, AISC, and ISO.
- Provide guidance to welders and fabricators to ensure welding procedures and best practices are followed.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and recommend process enhancements to improve product quality and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.
Qualifications:
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or technical degree in Quality Assurance, Welding, Manufacturing, or related field preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality control, preferably in structural steel fabrication.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding symbols, technical drawings, and blueprints.
- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as VT, MT, or UT.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards (AWS D1.1, AISC, ISO) and quality assurance principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform inspections for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as needed.
