What are the responsibilities and job description for the Worship Organist/Pianist position at Piedmont United Methodist Church?
Worship Organist/Pianist
· Preparing and playing all congregation hymns at the Traditional worship service each Sunday morning, typically on the organ
· Preparing and playing additional service music at the Traditional worship service each Sunday morning, typically on the piano; additional service music is typically the Gloria Patri, Doxology, choir anthem/offertory, and communion music
· Prepare for and attending each Wednesday evening Chancel Choir rehearsal to assist the Chancel Choir in warm-ups, learning parts, and learning each piece with full accompaniment, typically on the piano
· Assist the Chancel Choir with warm-ups and rehearsals of morning music before the Traditional Worship service, typically on the organ and piano
· Preparing for and playing at the following additional known church services;
o Yearly Advent concert/church talent show, typically in early December
o All Music Sundays (2 per year) One after Easter and One after Advent
o All Christmas Eve services, typically at 5:30pm, 7:00pm and 11:00pm on 12/24
o All Lenten Services, typically Ash Wednesday Maundy Thursday & Good Friday
o One additional morning service on Easter Sunday, typically a sunrise service
· Find and prepare substitutes when absences occur
· Assist with additional services and events throughout the year
Job Requirements:
· Excellent sight-reading skills
· Ability to play parts in open score format
· Follow direction to establish appropriate temps and dynamics
· Familiarity with traditional worship style music and hymns
· Patient, friendly, and reliable
· Punctual to all rehearsals and services
· Ability to play from chord charts or single note lead sheets, a plus
· Estimated weekly time
o Sunday – 6 hours
o Wednesday Evening Rehearsal – 3 hours
o Preparation time – not able to estimate
· Ability to reliably commute to Piedmont, Oklahoma
Job Type: Part-time
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
