Description
The School of Health Sciences invites applications for part-time teaching appointments. Candidates selected will teach one or some combination of courses in the School of Health Sciences. These courses could include, but are not necessarily limited to : core or elective courses in the degrees within the School of Health Sciences at Piedmont University.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Part-time Instructor Faculty responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :
a. Effective classroom / Clinical / Lab teaching and interacting with students in a professional manner.
b. Maintaining accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and clinical / lab evaluation.
c. Maintaining high standards of professionalism in the content, objectives, teaching, and grading of all courses and clinical paperwork.
d. Work in collaboration with course coordinators and assigned teaching faculty to ensure course objectives and learning outcomes are met as directed.
e. Maintaining an understanding of college and individual program policies, procedures, curriculum, and degree requirements in their respective schools
f. Participating in departmental, school, and college faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriate.
g. Contributing to the ongoing operation of their respective departments and schools.
h. Assessing their teaching effectiveness via annual portfolios and evaluating courses formally in accordance with official college procedure.
i. Assuring their availability to students, faculty, staff, and administrators by posting and keeping reasonable office hours, as determined by the dean of their respective schools.
j. Maintaining a professional level of scholarship by maintaining all required licensure and credentials necessary to meet Board of Certification requirements if supervising students in clinical rotations or Athletic Training program courses.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
On-site work is required.
Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Masters in Health Science related field with Doctoral preparation preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in related health science practice.
- Experience in teaching at the college or university level preferred.
- Physical and mental ability to perform the faculty member role.
- Ability to communicate effectively and express ideas.

Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors :
Work will be performed in inside environmental conditions : Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents will perform work that is mostly sedentary where they exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbents will regularly get up and down from a seated position, reach, bend, and stand throughout the day.
Incumbents are required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
