 Laboratory Technologist (MLT)

We are looking for a Laboratory Technologist to join our team to perform RT-qPCR procedures in our clinical laboratory. This position involves specimen processing and handling, test performance, and result reporting applied to molecular technology and will require the technologist to master multiple software systems for instruments.

· Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures, without direct supervision, including all testing and tasks of the medical technologist /clinical laboratory scientist.

· Receive, accession, and process incoming specimens. Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis

· Responsible for quality control procedures and documentation. Recognize deviation from expected results; analyze and correct the problem; document corrective actions taken as indicated in established laboratory procedures.

· Perform and document preventive maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment. Identify malfunctions or issues with equipment and perform troubleshooting when appropriate.

· Follow SOPs in all applicable areas to assure accuracy of laboratory results.

· Verify and report results in a timely manner.

· Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, COLA and HIPAA regulations.

· Manage reagent and expendables inventory to ensure patient testing is not interrupted and utilize laboratory supplies in a cost-effective manner with minimal waste.

· Participate in proficiency testing program.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet CLIA, CMS and COLA testing personnel requirements for high complexity testing:

· Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology from an accredited institution OR

· Associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR

Have education and training equivalent that includes:

o   At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that includes either:

§  24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; OR

§  24 semester hours of science courses that include:

o   6 semester hours of chemistry;

o   6 semester hours of biology; and

o   12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND

· Have laboratory training that includes either of the following:

o   Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program approved by HHS. (This training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above) OR

o    Minimum 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.

· Knowledge of laboratory techniques.

· RT-qPCR experience preferred.

· Team player, willing to work flexible hours including weekend rotation.

· Effective communication skills.

· Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
