Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Backhoe Operator to join our team at Pieper Houston Electric. This role will be responsible for operating heavy machinery to assist in various construction and installation projects. Your primary focus will be on excavation and trenching to facilitate the laying of electrical lines, conduits, and related infrastructure. The role requires a keen understanding of safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and efficient operation to support the smooth progression of projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operate backhoe machinery efficiently and safely to perform excavation and trenching according to project specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to determine optimal excavation plans and layouts.
- Safely maneuver backhoe equipment in tight spaces and around existing structures to minimize disruption and ensure precision.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning and address any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the backhoe equipment and surrounding area, to uphold safety standards and project efficiency.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to site-specific safety guidelines.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of materials, equipment, and tools as needed to support project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks, address concerns, and ensure project timelines are met.
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality craftmanship and attention to detail in all tasks performed.
- Stay abreast on with company and industry best practices and safety standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Certification or training in heavy equipment operation, particularly with backhoe machinery
- 3-5 years of experience operating backhoe equipment in a construction or contracting environment, preferably within the electrical industry.
- Proficient understanding of excavation techniques, soil types, and trenching requirements.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and protocols related to heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to interpret construction plans, blueprints, and diagrams.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Physical stamina and strength to withstand long hours of outdoor work and operate heavy machinery in various weather conditions.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
