What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical (Journeyman) Service Technician position at Pieper Houston Electric?
Pieper Houston Electric is seeking Electrical Service Technicians to join our team. Journeyman Service Technicians are responsible for installing and completing high-quality electrical field work and taking measures to increase the company’s effectiveness and efficiency. Job responsibilities:
May include, but are not limited to the following:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair or replace malfunctioning electrical apparatus and components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, motors, generators, and fixtures. Lighting controls
- Document actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation.
- Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduits.
- Check circuit connections to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
- Estimate the general amount of time and material to complete service tasks, taking into account the needs and manpower requirements.
- Perform emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
- Understand and demonstrate use of the principles of basic electricity and electronics.
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements.
- Maintain equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; report any issues to immediate supervisor
- Engage with customer/client to inform them of issue, solution and outcome; recommend products and services for optimal system performance.
- Treat client with highest degree of respect and work to develop a partnership environment.
Requirements:
- 3 years in commercial electrical on-demand / service, maintenance and/or directly involved in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70-E.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
- Journeyman Electrician license required
- Valid state electrical journeyman and/or master license
- Pass a background check, drug screen and DMV check.
- Availability to work on-call and overtime hours as needed – we are a 24/7 response team with rotating on-call schedules
- Basic hand tools needed to perform general repair work (screwdriver, wrench, etc)
- Familiar with and can use smart phones and tablets
- Efficient with time and materials while ensuring top quality electrical installations.
- Responsible for operating a company vehicle, and will be responsible for operating it in an appropriate manner. Misuse or abuse of company vehicle will not be tolerated.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools
- Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment
- Excellent problem-solving skills
Environmental / Working Conditions
- Local travel; frequently up to 100% of Time.
- Frequently works from electronic device and/or computer
- Acclimated to working outdoors in hot or cold weather.
- Completing electrical tasks in single or multi-story structures at various elevations from 4’ – 100’ high using step ladders, extensions ladders, elevated work platforms, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts.
- Exposure exposed to working on flat and steep pitched roofs with high elevations up to 120’ or more from ground level.
- May work in in trenches up to 15’ deep, tight narrow crawl spaces in control rooms, shafts, chases, attics, basements, below ground electrical vaults, manholes, lift stations and other similar work areas classified as confined spaces entry work.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
- Constantly moving on your feet.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions including jobsite directions, maps, and instructional manuals.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions.
