BUS PERSON
OVERVIEW
It is the responsibility of a bus person to clear and set tables in the appropriate manner prior to and after the service of the guest. A bus person is also responsible for maintaining supplies for service and assisting other service personnel to ensure that the guest is well-attended in a clean, neat, and hospitable atmosphere.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhering to standards of personal cleanliness and proper uniform, displaying attentive posture and confident, cordial disposition.
- Exemplifying hospitality standards, answering guests' questions about the restaurant, handling requests and complaints with guest satisfaction as priority. Handling difficult situations with guests professionally.
- Cooperating with management and co-workers, communicating suggestions for improvement in positive fashion. Exhibiting punctuality, dependability, and if the need arises, willingness to work non-scheduled shifts.
- Completing designated opening and closing duties in an efficient, timely manner, stocking supplies and serviceware, keeping station clean and stocked for service during shift, practicing "clean as you go" work habits, and maintaining organization.
- Carefully, quietly setting tables according to standards: proper place settings, center
arrangements, folding napkins, and checking cleanliness of serviceware. Knowing table numbers and coordinating with host personnel on seating needs and priority tables.
- Clearing tables when guests have left: removing serviceware to tray, wiping table thoroughly, brushing crumbs from seats, and checking floor for cleanliness.
- Demonstrating proper dishroom procedures: placing soiled linen in proper receptacle, stacking trays, or loading bus tubs in efficient manner to avoid breakage, placing dishes in proper location at dishwashing area, assisting dishroom personnel as needed. Helping to control waste and breakage through proper handling of serviceware, linen, and product.
- Maintaining general cleanliness of restaurant to provide good impression to our guests.
- Assisting in table service as requested by waitstaff:
- Serving water, bread, or beverages (coffee, tea)
- Clearing entrée plates, extraneous items
- Changing ashtrays in specified manner
- Placing unfinished items into take-home containers at request of guest
- Demonstrating circulation, consolidation of steps, and teamwork to maximize efficiency in providing guest satisfaction.
- Knowing emergency procedures for the restaurant.
Claiming 100% of net total tips (this is required by law).
Requirements:
- Completing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
At least 1 year of restaurant experience.
Compensation: Minimum $10.70 including tips
