What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Pierce Aluminum Company Inc?
Pierce Aluminum is a leading aluminum service center specializing in providing aluminum products to the high-tech, marine, transportation, manufacturing, and aerospace industries. Responsibilities:
- Buying:
- Review inventories and order as required.
- Reviews quotes, conducts analyses, issues purchase orders, reviews confirmations and resolves receiving/accounting issues
- Working with Management and Sales, to establish/define assortment, reorder points and economic order quantities.
- Support sales teams by managing RFQ’s (request for Quotes).
- Source from multiple global regions (both import and domestic). Demonstrates an understanding of tariffs, duties, and import costs and processes.
- Inventory Management: intercompany transfers & assortment optimization
- Supplier Relations:
- Maintains supplier scorecard data for respective Suppliers (including on time delivery).
- Expert in key suppliers’ organization, contractual agreements, and terms.
- Leverages strategic partnerships and optimizes existing agreements to mitigate risk and contain cost.
· Building and developing key relationships with vendors. Connect with suppliers daily and visit as required.
- Aligns supplier performance and behavior with overall business group and corporate strategies.
- Reporting and Data Analysis:
- Develop and deliver, routine reporting for analytical cross-functional projects. Provide insightful, timely, and accurate procurement category analysis to support procurement strategies.
- Does ad hoc analysis to support purchasing team initiatives.
- Identifies and drives continuous improvement opportunities within department and with suppliers. Serves as a change agent, a role model for continuous improvement.
- Design and create training materials (e.g., job aids, training, etc.) for internal users of procurement models and reports. Establishes and shares best practices.
- Participation in ERP implementation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Background in metals, manufacturing or commodities industries preferred but not required.
- Experience in strategic sourcing and/or vendor management analyses and processes a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Works independently, receives minimal guidance. Strong problem-solving skills and works with a sense of urgency.
- Spirit of continuous improvement and learning.
- May lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.
