How to be Successful in the Role:
To be successful in this role, you will need to have the ability to inspect, diagnose, adjust, maintain, and repair automotive and construction equipment using and operating hand and power tools, electronic and mechanical testing equipment, and welding equipment used in automotive and equipment repair. You will need to have the ability to estimate time and materials needed to complete assignments, while demonstrating sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform the work of the position. Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Perform progressive preventative maintenance on gas, and diesel powered vehicles and equipment, trailers and associated equipment.
- Operating a specially equipped mechanic's truck out of a central shop to make standard mechanical repairs and adjustments, or improvise emergency repairs, in the field to all types of road equipment and mechanical plant facilities.
- Performing welding and fabrication as needed to maintain equipment using various types of welding and cutting equipment.
- Work may include relining and adjusting brakes, engine, transmission, and differential replacement and repair, and electrical component replacement and repair.
There is also an annual clothing allowance of $300; and an annual tool allowance $1,050.Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to verify journey level standing as an Equipment Technician by providing one of the following:
- Completion of a relevant and recognized apprenticeship program.
- Certification as Master Technician from Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
- Full journey level status in Automotive Machinists’ Union.
- Four years of work experience as a full-time assistant to a journey level mechanic.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, a valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s License Class A (Planning and Public Works Department only).
- Satisfactory physical condition as evidenced by a County-approved physical examination.
- Must be willing to work any shift assigned and at any shop or field location.
- Must provide own tool kit with hand tools required to efficiently perform the essential functions.

Starting salary depending on experience:
Equipment Technician - $42.74 per hour
Equipment Technician with ASE certification - $43.86 per hour
