You will supervise and train a team of highly motivated and engaged employees working together to support a livable Pierce County through the establishment and maintenance of comprehensive fiscal processes. You will support recommendations with facts and analysis and interpret rules, laws, policies and procedures within the budget, contracts and grants processes and implementation within Pierce County Human Services.

Advanced knowledge of governmental accounting and budget methods and procedures are necessary to succeed in this position. It also requires a strong understanding of the Uniform Guidance, GAAP, and relevant policies, regulations, methods and procedures with regard to grant budgeting, accounting and management.
Reporting directly to the Financial and Administration Officer, you will have clear goals set for the year and meet weekly to assess progress on tasks assigned and receive feedback.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Direct and participate in the establishment and maintenance of comprehensive fiscal processes, procedures and controls for fulfillment of, and compliance with, grant requirements; audit a variety of financial documents for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with generally accepted accounting principles, and with program regulations, goals, and objectives.
- Maintain and oversee the accounting and budgeting of governmental grants and contracts to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and county requirements.
- Participate in department and division-wide projects.
- Supervise a team of professional accounting staff. Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and assign, review, and approve the work of subordinate staff.
- Reconcile reports and financial statements; forecast and monitor expenditure rates and identify needs for adjustment.

Recruiting Requirements:
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, business or public administration, or related discipline applicable to the duties of the position and two or more years of experience in governmental accounting, auditing, budgeting or closely related field is required.
- Previous lead or supervisory experience is highly desirable.
- Additional education and/or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver's license or otherwise meet the travel requirements of the position is required.
