The Parks Maintenance Technician 4 (PMT4) position is a unique opportunity to work on the widest variety of Park assets across Pierce County Parks system. As a PMT4, you will have significant autonomy over your daily tasks and latitude to tackle unique maintenance problems as well as larger, more complex trades related projects using your background and expertise. PMT4’s are the highest level of non-supervisory maintenance positions within Pierce County Parks, you will work both independently or as a team on projects which have been vetted and identified through the Planned Maintenance Program (PMP) Work Plan. Likewise, as a core team member you will also be instrumental in vetting that project plan annually, providing recommendations, guidance, insight, and perspective alongside other members of your team. The PMP is made up of two other PMT4’s as well as the PMP Supervisor who are a motivated, positive, forward-thinking group of professionals. The staff are well respected across the department and if you join this team, you will become a critical component within Pierce County Parks. PMT4 Project Examples: 

  • Retrofitting a restroom with updated plumbing fixtures
  • Small building and facility remodel
  • Small roofing, gutter, siding replacement
  • Bollard & gate installation
  • Emergency maintenance repair support (When appropriate)
  • Fixed asset installation in coordination with Resource Stewardship (Capital Team)
  • ADA compliance projects
  • Failed asset and structure evaluation and recommendation memo’s
  • Project Management (bidding process, contract coordination, and scheduling)

How to be Successful in the Role: 

You will be dedicated to ensuring Pierce County residents have exceptional parks and park facilities to play, enjoy and access in a safe and meaningful way. You will be proactive in providing project updates related to scheduled work, project challenges, and support needs. Likewise, the PMT4 role provides project leadership and lead maintenance support to all maintenance regions within Pierce County Parks, it is critical that you have a strong customer service acumen. This role may interface with many levels of staff and as such must be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of personalities. In this role, it is important to demonstrate positive and enthusiastic willingness to learn required job functions. Be adaptable and unafraid to learn new skills and tackle unfamiliar challenges. Demonstrate consistent progress in learning job duties. Feel comfortable and able to confidently inspect, evaluate, and make repair recommendations on a wide variety of building, infrastructure, systems, and facility assets.  


Your Future in this Role:

The Planned Maintenance Program continues to adapt and improve as Pierce County Parks adds new facilities and maintains existing. You will influence the design and development of new Park facilities as well as how our existing facilities and park amenities are maintained. The PMT4 series uniquely works on some of the most complex maintenance projects across all sites managed by Parks. Some keyways you will make positive impacts include: 

  • Influence the 2026-2027 Program Work Plan and budget as well as future Work Plans and Program Budgets. 
  • Develop standard operating procedures for work performed and project delivery expectations as you closeout delegated work. 
  • Coach and mentor staff from across the County in your areas of expertise.
  • Track projects within the Counties Asset Management system and contribute to continually improving project tracking and measure key deliverables and outcomes. 
  • Routinely communicated with peers and leadership on project status, communicate risks, and proactively evaluate opportunities to manage the whole life of our parks assets. 


Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Performs new construction and installation work such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, mechanical, HVAC, masonry or other trades work on County Parks and Recreation Services facilities and structures.
  • Plans, organizes, and prioritizes various maintenance, repair, and construction projects.
  • Oversees complex assignments through completion.
  • Ensures project assignments conform to standards and code requirements.
  • Determines materials, supplies, cost estimates for projects, and orders supplies and materials.
  • Provides direction, assistance, and training to other parks maintenance staff assigned to specific project.

  • Three or more years of journey level work experience in one or more of the building, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, construction, or related trade areas and provide adequate documentation of such.
  • Additional training or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Satisfactory physical condition is required as indicated by a County-approved physical examination.
  • Frequent lifting or carrying objects up to 50 pounds may be required in some positions.

  • Salary: $36.54-$44.39 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7 am to 4 pm, with some flexibility
