Why It's a Great Opportunity: As a seasoned mechanical maintenance professional, you will support the maintenance and repair of various assets ranging from pumps and machinery to various mechanical components for our wastewater assets. You may find yourself working in an industrial facility, a confined space or perhaps in a roadway. You will find the work physically demanding, challenging, and rewarding.  Your efforts will support the Chambers Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Cascadia Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as the collections system that contain over 735 miles of sewer lines and more than 15,000 manholes and 100 pump stations, which contribute to complex and diverse sewer systems throughout the Pierce County Sewer Service Area.     We want to ensure a healthy environment and Puget Sound so the work you perform is important and essential to our customers and regulators.  Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Lead, train, provide direction and instruct other employees as required.
  • Responsible for the efficient and safe execution of work for staff and the public.
  • Familiarity and proficiency of a wide variety of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery utilized in the industry and trades.  
  • Perform wastewater treatment plant maintenance and repair on industrial process infrastructure and rotating equipment/machinery driven by motor, gear, belt, pneumatic and hydraulic drives to process liquids, semi solids, solids, and air.
  • Perform operation, maintenance and repairs on facility supporting systems and equipment such as fire protection, HVAC, potable water, elevators, cranes, and building envelop components.
  • Operate a wide variety of plant, utility, CDL and collection system vehicles and specialized equipment such as dump truck, forklift, vacuum pump, Vactor, backhoe, jet-rodder, boom truck, pump units, televised sewer line inspection equipment. and emergency generators.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance generated from our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), respond to corrective maintenance needs and customer service request.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of apprenticeship training from a recognized vocational technical school or training program.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, pumping, or collection system is required.
  • A combination of education/experience which clearly demonstrates ability to perform the duties of this classification may be substituted for education and formal training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing maintenance in a wastewater plant, industrial plant or manufacturing facility.
  • Skilled or trained as an industrial or equipment mechanic, welder, pipefitter, machinist, plumber and general construction.

Special Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Within the first twelve months, individuals must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" (Tank Vehicle) endorsement and Wastewater Collections Specialist Certification.
