What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Clerk position at Pierce Transit?
Pierce Transit is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Account Clerk to join our Finance Department. In this role, you will be responsible for performing routine accounting work in the maintenance of varied accounting records and accounts; performs other related duties as assigned. Under direction from the Finance Manager or Finance Supervisor, an employee in this classification is responsible for maintaining accounting records and accurately recording the financial transactions of the Agency. Employees usually work with a considerable degree of independence on routine operations. The work is subject to periodic review for mathematical and procedural accuracy.

- Prepares, processes and maintains the Agency's accounts payable and receivables.
- Generates billings for recurring services or other billings as requested.
- Monitors open invoices for overdue payment.
- Prepares and enters daily cash receipts and deposits in accordance with segregation of duty controls, reviews cash receipts for accuracy and coding.
- Processes invoices for payment, ensures accuracy and that invoices are coded in accordance with the budget and BARS manual, ensures proper authorization is obtained.
- Reconciles vendor statements, follows up on outstanding invoices.
- Maintains petty cash drawer balance; manages disbursement and replenishments.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of financial (Excel) spreadsheets.
- Enters various accounting data using computerized accounting system.
- Assists in monthly and year-end closing and preparation of financial reports.
- Prepares journal entries for the accounting system.
- Assists in cash processing and accounting.
- Reconciles various general ledger accounts.
- Assists with ongoing records management.
- Assists with special projects assignments as needed.
- Responds to staff inquiries related to areas of responsibility.
- Serves as a backup to the Clerical Assistants in the Money Counting Room (MCR).
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as assigned.

PAID LEAVE:
Full-time Pierce Transit employees receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, 6 days of major sick leave, 22 days of paid time off (PTO) per year, and the ability to earn up to 2 Wellness Days by participating ina qualifying wellness activity and the annual survey. PTO accrual rates increase per policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
AND one year of vocational or college level accounting training
AND a minimum of two years of clerical accounting experience working with computerized accounting systems.
Additional related experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge of: computerized accounting systems including Excel spreadsheets; accounts payable and/or payroll procedures; basic accounting principles and procedures.
Skill in: learning and using new computer software applications; completing assigned work within prescribed timelines; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with other; maintaining records; and analyzing situations effectively and adopting appropriate courses of action.Ability to: enter data with a high degree of accuracy using a computer terminal and keyboard; analyze and reconcile data; prepare financial spreadsheets; operate calculating equipment; relate to the public and Agency staff in a positive, courteous manner; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; pass a job-related examination.
The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. May occasionally need to move boxes from 5 to 40 pounds.
Work is generally performed in an office environment relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
Education
- Any required education must come from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
