Position Overview

C&S Wholesale Grocers desires to create the most safe, efficient, and service forward fleet in the country. As a Professional Driver with C&S Wholesale Grocers, you will start your driving career with the company by working with a Professional Driver Trainer (PDT) who will provide coaching and insight on the C&S Way which includes company and regulatory requirements. Once you have successfully completed our new hire training program, you will maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through deliveries of product and services while performing all other assigned duties. All functions must be completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

• The Relief Driver Position at Piggly Wiggly Midwest is a Union Job and all work is bid out by seniority.

As a Relief Driver with Piggly Wiggly , you will maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through deliveries of products and services while performing all other assigned duties. All functions must be completed safely and timely and follow the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

• Drive a tractor-trailer (semi-truck/eighteen-wheeler) combination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations, to transport and deliver products
• Make an average of 2-3 stops per day; pallets can consist of all types of products
• May include picking up backhauls as required.
• Maneuver the truck into the loading or unloading position
• Electronic logging according to DOT regulations
• Inspect the truck before and after trips and submit a report indicating the truck's condition
• Read the bill of lading to determine the assignment

Description

• Drive a tractor-trailer (semi-truck/eighteen-wheeler) combination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations, to transport and deliver dry groceries to retail customers. Strive to provide a positive customer experience by completing the delivery with professionalism.
• Driver is responsible for making an average of 3 stops per day (with possible overnight). At point of delivery, Driver is responsible for unload and driver assistance. Pallets can consist of all types of products with a range of pallet height and pallet weight. Whenever possible, backhauls will be added where and when possible.
• For specific customers, Drivers will be required to count cases as well as pallet verification upon delivery
• Ability to maneuver truck into loading or unloading position in tight urban areas. Ability to operate trailer lift gate in a safe manner (company will train and certify as needed) for curbside deliveries
• In accordance with I.C.C. regulations, effective use of electronic logging equipment (People Net), conduct Pre-trip and Post-Trip vehicle inspections for equipment condition reporting

Skills

• Specialized Knowledge : DOT Certified, Class A Commercial Driver's License, Retail Deliveries in Urban Locations
• Special Skills : Lift gate deliveries with MHE
• Physical abilities: : Valid Department Of Transportation Physical Exam, Valid Department Of Transportation Physical Exam
• Other: : Position is union represented
• Enjoy working with people - Quality and customer-service focused : MHE certification (Company will certify upon hire)

Years Of Experience

• 1-2 : Require 1-year of prior CDL-A driving urban delivery experience, valid CDL-A license
• 1-2 : Ability to understand bill of lading in order to fully execute assignments
• 1-2 : DOT Certified
