Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of our grocery store. As an Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the store operates efficiently, meets customer expectations, and maintains a high standard of organization and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Punctuality and Attendance
- Arrive on time every day and set a positive example for the team.
- Store Walkthroughs
- Conduct daily walkthroughs of the store to evaluate overall conditions, engage with associates, and interact with customers.
- Inspect all departments, including coolers and freezers, and identify actionable tasks to be completed by the end of the day.
- Focus on:
- Restocking and managing inventory backstock.
- Verifying the accuracy and visibility of all price tags and signage.
- Ensuring shelves are fully stocked and displays (e.g., end caps, side stacks) are well-organized and visually appealing.
- Task Delegation
- Assign tasks to department heads or team members based on walkthrough observations.
- Monitor progress throughout the day and ensure completion of all assigned responsibilities.
- Inventory and Loss Prevention
- Identify close-dated items and coordinate markdowns to minimize losses.
- Collaborate with department managers to maintain optimal stock levels, ensuring the store holds only what is needed between deliveries.
- Vendor Relations
- Communicate with vendors to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Monitor delivery quantities to avoid overstocking or understocking and manage reorder schedules.
- Collaboration and Operations Oversight
- Work closely with department managers or team leads to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Conduct follow-up walkthroughs to confirm resolution of previously identified issues.
- Leadership and Team Support
- Serve as a servant leader by actively participating in daily store operations.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, promoting productivity and morale.
- Operations and Reporting
- Accompany the Operations Manager on their daily tour to discuss store performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Communication
- Maintain open communication with associates, department heads, and the Operations Manager.
- Ensure that no issue is overlooked, fostering a team culture of transparency and problem-solving.
- Customer Engagement
- Prioritize excellent customer service by ensuring a clean, organized, and well-stocked store.
- Address customer concerns promptly and professionally to enhance the shopping experience.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in retail management, preferably in a grocery store setting.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and support a team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
