Position Summary:
Conveyance Inspectors perform complex inspections of new and existing conveyance equipment, including elevators, escalators, vertical platform lifts, and dumb waiters to ensure compliance with standard building and safety codes. Conveyance Inspectors are responsible for enforcing compliance with codes to ensure public safety. Conveyance Inspectors investigate complaints concerning conveyance equipment, recommend repairs, and follow up to ensure compliance. Conveyance Inspectors can stop operations of unsafe conveyance equipment, or cancel permits, depending on their findings. Conveyance Inspectors maintain accurate records and reports of each inspection. In addition, Conveyance Inspectors interpret and explain building and safety codes to contractors, property owners, and the general public. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Conveyance Inspector.
