POSITION DESCRIPTION
-
The MC Med Tech is responsible for supervising and assisting in the administration of medications to residents as ordered and in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures, and practices of the company. The Medication Technician provides complete supervision of the medication room and/or cart, maintains a current account of all medications residents are taking and completes all documentation required of the company’s medication policy. In addition, the Medication Technician will provide direct personal care, encourage residents to participate in activities, work with housekeepers and maintenance staff in accordance with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate medication services with the resident, pharmacy, and physician.

Prepare and distribute medication to residents and assist residents with taking their prescribed medications. Check names and times carefully of resident medicines to be offered.

Order and track all medication changes, refills and deliveries with pharmacies.

Maintain accurate, complete and confidential resident medication and care records. Ensure all medication documentation is current and correct, including medication administration forms, physician’s orders and dosage changes.

Keep medicine rooms and carts orderly, clean and appropriately stocked. Maintain an inventory of all department supplies and re-order as needed.

Monitor Psychotropic medication use is congruent with physician’s orders and ensure resident behaviors warrants the use of medication.

Participate in and complete narcotic count at beginning and end of each shift. Report any and all discrepancies to supervisor immediately.

Maintain communication with physicians, family members and vendors, as needed.

Monitor resident’s activity, intake and output, vital signs, and psychosocial status and report changes immediately to supervisor and document according to company policy. Utilize resident care plans.

Demonstrate knowledge of infection control, i.e., adequate hand-washing, blood borne pathogens procedures, universal precautions, etc.

Monitor physical/safety hazards of Memory Care House, lock/unlocking doors as necessary. Ensure items that could constitute a danger to the resident are stored inaccessible to residents. This includes but is not limited to: Knives, matches, firearms, tools, over-the-counter medication, nutritional supplements or vitamins, alcohol, cigarettes and toxic substances.

Report resident actions such as wandering, aggressive behavior and ingestion of toxic materials.

Respond immediately to resident crisis, following company policy and basic first aid training.

Assist care aid in the performance of their job requirements and assume job duties when directed. i.e., activities of daily living, assist in the dining room set up and service of meals to include assisting residents and checking to be sure all residents scheduled for meals are present. Assist in meal tray delivery as needed.

Assist in providing scheduled activities that meet the needs and limitations of residents with dementia and include large motor activities and perceptual and sensory stimulation.

Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents, and guests, following established safety standards.

Respond to resident concerns and complaints in a professional and caring manner. Elevate issues to your supervisor when appropriate.

Review assignments prior to leaving the shift to assure residents are safe and comfortable.

Participate in the Culture Change process through committee assignments that may involve Steering Committee, Action Teams, PersonFirst Team, and/or self-led neighborhood/household team.

Attend meetings, in-services, trainings, and serve on various employee committees as assigned.

Practice good safety habits, attend safety in-service meetings, participate as a Safety team member, participate in fire/disaster drills and be knowledgeable of policies and procedures.

Understand and ensure compliance with all Federal (Title 22) and state regulations concerning the department.

Attend shift report and receive assignments. Complete resident rounds prior to starting care needs and report changes of condition immediately to appropriate supervisor(s).

Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments. Carry radio and pager on person and communicate as required.

Proactively support the achievement of all team and organizational goals.

Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications

Maintain current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.

Maintain a current first aid card and CPR card.
-
Possess a genuine concern and interest for the residents.

Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Understand the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by the company, pharmacists and physicians.

One year prior experience as medication technician in a community care, memory care or skilled nursing facility preferred.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in a variety of circumstances and make sound judgments.

Ability to report to work on time and complete the assigned work shift.
Salary : $21 - $23
