Summary of Opening:

The Chick/Egg driver is responsible for picking up chicks or eggs from the hatchery and delivering them to the farms each day. The driver is responsible for performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections as well as forklift inspections. The driver is responsible for loading the trailer with stacks of chicks on pallets. The driver will safely deliver the chicks to a farm and help unload them on-site using the forklift. Once all chicks have been unloaded, the driver will take the empty chick boxes and deliver them back to the hatchery to be cleaned. The driver will unload the pallets. After the boxes have been dropped off, the driver repeats these steps after retrieving new boxes of chicks. Trucks will be loaded at hatchery, empty racks will be delivered to producers and full racks will be picked up causing the nature of the position to be physical at times. The driver will haul approximately 2 to 4 loads a day. This position's importance lies in the fact that this person must make sure the product is delivered on a timely basis and is correctly placed in the grower's houses to help ensure a good start this person must make sure eggs are pick up in a timely matter and handled so as to insure the best quality hatching egg to be delivered to the hatchery. Successful applicants will also realize that they are representing Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation whenever they are driving a company vehicle, making sure to always follow the rules of the road.

The typical schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday starting around 5 a.m. until done hauling designated loads. Typically, a 10 to 12-hour work day. Works occasional Wednesdays or weekends for driver meetings and deep cleaning trailers. Works all holidays that fall on weekdays.

Description of Duties/Qualifications:

• Must have successfully completed the probationary/trial period.
• Must have excellent attendance habits.
• Must have no other disciplinary write-ups within the past 90 days.
• Must be able to load trucks at hatchery, deliver chicks to farms, return empty carriers to hatchery and wash chick carriers after return to hatchery. Deliver and Pick up empty and full racks of eggs. The nature of the position is very physical.
• Must be able to drive large trucks in all types of weather and have the ability to chain wheels, if needed.
• Must be able to lift/push 100 lbs.
• Valid Class A Driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to Company Policy 622 required, (Possession of a single, valid operator’s license with appropriate vehicle classification for the operator's state of residence; no incident in prior 36 months in which the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs; no incident in prior 36 months of reckless/careless driving; no major driving violations), for Lockout/Tag out safety as well as other company safety programs and policies and record and must pass a DOT physical.
• Vision correctable to 20/20.
• Valid Pilgrim’s Forklift license or ability to obtain license within 30 days
• Must be able to operate a manual CMV
• Must be able keep interior of truck clean at all times and comply with the company’s bio-security policy at all times.
• Must possess good decision making ability.
• As trucks are heated and cooled, some mechanical abilities in this area would be preferred if repairs to the vehicle were needed while in transit.
• May also be required to do other Hatchery related jobs.
• Good work ethics and able to work as a team with other drivers and Hatchery employees.
• Able to work in hot and dusty environments as well as any weather related conditions
