This position plays a key role in programming CNC machines to produce fasteners that meet precise customer specifications.
Job Summary:
The CNC Programmer will be responsible for creating, modifying, and optimizing CNC programs to produce fasteners and related components. This role requires a deep understanding of CNC programming, machining processes, and the ability to work with advanced CNC equipment. The ideal candidate will also work closely with the production team to ensure that the programming process aligns with quality standards and production goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- CNC Programming & Setup:
- Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs for CNC mills, lathes, and other equipment based on engineering drawings and specifications.
- Utilize G-code and M-code programming to set up machines for precise fastener production.
- Prepare CNC programs that ensure optimal cycle times, part quality, and machine performance.
- Collaboration with Engineering & Production Teams:
- Work closely with engineers, production managers, and machine operators to ensure the programming meets customer requirements and production needs.
- Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and 3D models to determine the most efficient and accurate CNC programming methods.
- Troubleshoot programming issues and work with the team to resolve challenges and improve processes.
- Process Optimization & Efficiency:
- Continuously assess and optimize CNC programs to reduce cycle times, improve part quality, and minimize material waste.
- Make adjustments to programming and tooling based on machine performance and quality inspections.
- Work with the production team to identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Quality Control & Inspection:
- Ensure that parts produced meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Collaborate with quality control inspectors to develop and implement quality checks for programmed parts.
- Review and approve CNC part setups to ensure they conform to engineering specifications before production runs.
- Machine Setup & Support:
- Provide support during machine setup, including tool selection, machine calibration, and fixture setup.
- Assist machine operators with troubleshooting programming issues and ensuring correct machine operations.
- Ensure that all CNC programs are properly documented, organized, and stored for future reference.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all CNC operations comply with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings and continuously promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, tooling, and machine settings.
- Provide regular updates to the Production Manager regarding production progress, machine performance, and programming needs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate’s or bachelor’s degree in machining, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 3 years of experience in CNC programming in a manufacturing environment, ideally within the fastener or precision machining industry.
- Proficiency in CNC programming (G-code and M-code) and experience with CNC milling, turning, and other machining operations.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and fixturing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and 3D models.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks, or similar) for program creation.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures, measuring tools, and ensuring compliance with tight tolerances.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot programming or machining issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple programming tasks simultaneously.
