Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Child Care Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a nurturing and educational environment for children. This role involves working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children, providing them with the support they need to grow and develop. The Child Care Teacher will be responsible for implementing age-appropriate activities that promote learning and social skills while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
Position Duties
- Plan and implement classroom activities that facilitate the physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth of children in the classroom
- Adhere to all ABC Childcare regulations and goals associated with the program
- Actively interact with and encourage children’s involvement with activities
- Ensure a clean, appealing, stimulating and safe environment
- Prepare classroom environment utilizing bulletin boards and child(ren) arts and crafts
- Use appropriate and positive discipline as outlined in the Discipline Behavior Policy
- Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior
- Maintain developmental records for children through completion of assessments (3x year)
- Establish, maintain, and interact sensitively and supportively with parents, children and staff
- Supervise and evaluate volunteers
- Attend staff meetings, workshops, and planned events for children
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least 6months of supervised experience in a documented licensed child care facility
- ECD 101, or willing to enroll within 6 months of employment
- Attend annual SCECA Conference, normally in February
- Evidence of emotional maturity, stability, and work ethics
- Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively
- Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment suitable for varying ages of children enrolled in the center
- Ability to act as a mediator between children
- Physical Stamina:
- Prior to employment, employee must submit a dated report of satisfactory tuberculin test
- Submit a dated medical statement signed by a licensed physician, licensed nurse practitioner, or licensed physician’s assistant verifying the potential employee suffers no emotional illness or condition which would adversely affect child care. A subsequent statement is required every four years
- Be able to safely lift 40 /- lbs.
- First Aid/CPR certification
Knowledge Required
- SC rules and regulations regarding licensed day care centers
- Pilgrims’ Inn and Open Arms policies/procedures for employees and program operations
- Knowledge and experience working with children
Skills Required
- Ability and desire to work with children in a developmentally appropriate setting
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to plan and implement lesson plans and activities
