What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANT MANAGER position at Pilkington North America Inc.?
Primary Duties:
- Plans, directs and coordinates the manufacturing of glass products to meet present and future customer requirements with reduced cost, high yields, quality and increased efficiency.
- Sets and monitors Plant production, quality and cost goals consistent with Group goals.
- Continually develops new and improved production methods, processes and equipment to increase profits and yields.
- Administers all financial support functions to ensure respective operations are maintained at appropriate levels.
- Coordinates all service elements to provide continuing and effective maintenance of Plant and equipment.
- Plans, develops and recommends operating budgets as guides to cost control, capital planning and expenses, and ensures compliance with approved budgets.
- Maintains effective labor relations to assure continuous production; resolves union grievances fairly and plans negotiating strategy as required.
- Selects, trains and develops a competent organization to maintain an efficient and effective operation.
- Reviews schedules, coordinates and directs all manufacturing activities to meet requirements and specifications.
- Actively participates on scheduled float line rebuilds and reviews suggestions for improved designs to secure longer “campaign life.”
- On call at all times for operational activities.
- As requested, liases with other plants in regard to manufacturing methods and operations.
- Compiles and presents management with a monthly progress report for evaluating Plant and glassmaking activities

Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering discipline or related field
- Experience:
- Flat glass industry experience
- A minimum of 10 years middle/senior management manufacturing experience
- Demonstrated leadership and emotional intelligence capabilities
- Innovative and strategic thinker
- Demonstrated abilities in developing Plant Staff, production scheduling, inventory management, and manufacturing processes
- Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
Qualifications/Skills Desired:
- Education: MBA or Master’s degree in a Manufacturing discipline
- Experience: Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier experience
- Six Sigma Blackbelt certification
Salary Range: $147,324-$220,980
