Welcome to the role of Field Technician I - Fire Suppression. In this position, you will provide general labor and materials handling in support of the Fire Suppression operation. The work will be conducted in commercial, industrial, and underground facilities. This position must possess a thorough understanding of all aspects of Fire Suppression and demonstrates proficiency with the products and service equipment associated with Fire Suppression.
This position will require a flexible schedule that may include extended hours, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
What You'll Do
- Assist with and learn how to inspect, install, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and repair fire detection and suppression systems
- Assist with and learn how to perform pipe joining practices such as threading, grooving, press fitting, bolt connections, etc.
- Install hangers following code requirements
- Properly use hand tools, power tools, threaders, etc. for applications in Fire Suppression
- Assist with troubleshooting electronic fire alarm detection and suppression equipment
- Learn to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, codes and specifications, schematics, and operational product manuals
- Become familiar with job specific documentation with the intention of becoming proficient
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Planners, Project Engineers, and other field personnel regarding duties and relevant issues
- Follow instructions and complete given tasks that are specific to job completion
- Provide physical labor as required
- Load and prepare work materials for transport to job sites
Working Conditions
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Perform duties on-site at industrial, commercial, and residential locations
- Perform work underground and at heights for extended periods of time
What You'll Bring
- No experience necessary, but knowledge of plumbing on fire suppression systems including wet pipe, dry pipe, pre-action, deluge, and fixed fire extinguishing systems is preferred
- Possesses a technical and mechanical aptitude
- Possesses a basic knowledge of NFPA 25 preferred
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately
- Must be willing to attend training and remain updated with regard to industry standards and requirements to include the MSHA 40-hour, Red Hat certification, underground training, state specific trainings and manufacturer certifications
