Job Description:

New York Metro Area law firm with national practice is seeking a skilled and motivated Coverage Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in handling complex insurance coverage matters, providing expert legal advice to insurers, and managing litigation related to coverage disputes. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a team of experienced attorneys. New York Bar required and New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania Bars a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Insurance Coverage Analysis: Provide legal advice on policy interpretation, coverage disputes, and claims handling. Analyze complex insurance policies to determine coverage and exclusions for both commercial and personal lines policies.
  • Litigation Management: Represent clients in coverage litigation, including drafting and filing motions, discovery requests, and responses. Attend hearings, depositions, and trials related to coverage disputes.
  • Claim Reviews: Advise insurers on claims handling practices, including the evaluation of potential coverage issues, and develop strategies for resolving coverage disputes.
  • Legal Research & Writing: Conduct thorough legal research on coverage issues, case law, and regulatory changes. Draft detailed coverage opinions, legal memoranda, and settlement documents.
  • Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients to keep them informed of case developments, strategy, and potential outcomes. Provide clear, actionable legal advice.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with partners, associates, and clients to develop case strategies, assist with other practice areas as needed, and contribute to the firm's overall success.

Qualifications:

  • Education: J.D. from an accredited law school; active admission to the NY and/or NJ State Bar.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in insurance coverage law, preferably with a focus on defense work. Experience handling complex coverage disputes and litigation is highly preferred.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical, writing, and research skills.
  • Experience drafting legal opinions, motions, and discovery responses.
  • Ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of insurance law, including knowledge of NY and NJ state regulations and case law related to insurance coverage.

Job Type:
Full-time (with hybrid work schedule available)

Salary Range

$125,000 - $175,000 per year commensurate with experience
