PRODUCT SAFETY & REGULATORY SPECIALIST
Role Summary
This position will assist in the implementation, documentation, and maintenance of programs and systems that ensure the compliance of Pilot Chemical as it relates to FDA, TSCA, REACH, OSHA hazard communication standard, Pilot product safety initiatives, Food Contact Notifications, any State specific chemical control laws as well as the Responsible Care® Management system. They will prepare and provide product Safety Data Sheets (SDS's) and labels in compliance with all appropriate regulations (GHS, CLP, REACH, DOT, etc.) through use of SDS software systems. This person will develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Pilot Chemical products, chemistries and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain SDS authoring system to meet regulatory needs in target markets.
- Provide accurate SDS’s on Pilot products and inventoried raw materials.
- Support multi-lingual documentation by working within the SDS authoring system or with a 3rd party translator
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding both SDS’s and labels as needed. Maintain regulatory information for products, raw materials and for distribution of SDS’s and labels thorough our ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system and document control system (Q-pulse).
- Maintain relationship with Chemtrec® to ensure SDS’s are available as needed for the emergency response community.
- Assess product compositions by researching hazards and properties for the classification, preparation and communication of both SDS and HAZCOM/DOT labels.
- Ensure transportation information for each product is properly entered into our ERP system.
- Own processes that consider regulation, hazard and exposure information for raw materials and chemicals to determine risk for product safety.
- Respond to questions and complete product safety related questionnaires from customers, sales and technical personnel.
- Oversee Global Chemical Registrations such as: EU REACH, Korea REACH, and other target markets while working as the main Point of Contact (POC) with consultant(s).
- Oversee TSCA compliance issues such as auditing, PMN submission, inventory updates, recordkeeping, CDR reporting, 8(c) and 8(e) reporting and training, and Export 12(b) notifications.
- Oversee Food Contact Compliance: 21 CFR, US Food Contact Notification.
- Expertise and knowledge in FDA regulatory compliance e.g. MoCRA for cosmetic and personal care applications across North America and ideally Canada and LATAM.
- Ensure regulatory compliance within the cosmetic, personal care, and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs sectors.
- Other International regulatory support as needed - German BfR, EU no. 10/2011, China GB 9685, Swiss RS.817.023.21 Annex 6, Brazil ANVISA, etc as business needs require.
- Monitor and assess applicability of state-based product safety/regulatory regulations.
- Understand regulations for pesticides outside of the US, as appropriate.
- Assist with activities in complying with the Responsible Care® Management System.
- Also works on Environmental Health & Safety Programs as needed.
Competencies
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a biology/chemistry/environmental health or related discipline.
- A minimum of one to three years of related experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and regulatory literature and journals, and governmental legislation and regulations, i.e., EPA/40 CFR, FDA/21 CFR, OSHA, DOT, GHS, CLP and REACH.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and the ability to learn new concepts quickly.
- Ability to work with both internal and external customers as needed.
- Ability to effectively present information in written form, or for presentation to management, employees, customers or regulatory agencies.
- Ability to travel as necessary 5-10%.
Recommended:
- Experience in the following chemical regulations: FDA, OSHA, TSCA (US), CLP / REACH, WHMIS (Canada) and GHS (general).
- Working knowledge of SDS’s, GHS, and HazCom principles.
- One to three years’ experience with SDS authoring software and product safety initiatives
