Summary :
Under direct supervision of the Environmental Programs Manager, the Environmental Technician performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain and protect the Ak-Chin Indian Community's (ACIC) reservation environment and natural resources. This position will also conduct complex technical research and analysis, environmental outreach and other environmental program work to assist the ACIC Environmental Protection Program in providing environmental protection.
Minimum Qualifications :
High School diploma or GED and a minimum of two (2) years work experience in an environmental, natural resource or wildlife management field; or a combination of training and experience to meet the requirements of the position. Must possess technical skills to interact with staff to assist them with the installation and troubleshooting of equipment. Must be willing and able to travel (approximately 10% of time). Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.
Examples of Duties :
- Becomes cross-trained in a number of environmental media including : water quality, air quality and use of pesticides and herbicides; habitat restoration, re-vegetation and wetland issues; solid waste management and recycling; radon, asbestos, and lead based paint awareness; multi-media environmental education for the tribal community; and emergency response activities on reservation land.
- Conducts wash maintenance and invasive species removal using mechanical means (chainsaws, heavy equipment, etc.)
- Provides staff support for implementation of environmental programs and projects and tribal environmental regulations, codes and laws.
- Brings together information and resource data for the tribe in various areas of environmental media (water, land and air, etc.).
- Conducts research including environmental and habitat surveys, compiles and analyzes project data, and prepares technical reports on environmental issues affecting reservation lands.
- As assigned, collects samples and sends to laboratory for testing; records / logs test results.
- Performs routine maintenance of equipment.
- Coordinates with other Departments such as Sanitation; Maintenance; Planning and Capital Projects including planning and holding meetings.
- Takes necessary steps to restore normal operating conditions in the event of emergencies.
- Assists with environmental compliance reviews; reviews and issues environmental permits.
- Conducts environmental education & outreach, including preparing and presenting information at workshops and meetings on various environmental issues affecting the Ak-Chin Indian Community lands.
- Prepares and submits required reports.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
