Position Summary :
The Academic Advisor - Nursing will be assigned to the Division of Health Professions and report to the Academic Success Counselor. This position is dedicated to meeting the academic advising needs of students and managing advising caseloads for programs within the Division, with a primary focus on Nursing. Additionally, the Academic Advisor for Nursing will collaborate with key stakeholders, including Student Services Program Advisors, Faculty, Academic Deans, Tutoring Services, Student Affairs leadership, the District Registrar, Financial Aid, Placement and Testing, Outreach, Curriculum Development, Information Technology, Student Life, and Enrollment Advisors within the Student Services Center. The role also includes responsibility for case management advising within the division.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provide academic advising to students, including guidance on four-year transfer options, course selection, certificates, degrees, college services, and the development of educational plans
- Research and recommend solutions for technically complex and challenging student advising concerns
- Develop and deliver training programs for faculty and staff to ensure consistent district-wide services, including new student orientation, workshops, and training sessions in various formats (in-person and online)
- Provide technical information and interpretation of college policies, procedures, best practices in student development, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the general public, ensuring compliance
- Analyze confidential student information, identify issues and discrepancies, and recommend appropriate actions based on findings
- Research, interpret, update, and maintain a variety of confidential student records
- Prepare, maintain, and submit required time and effort reports
- Monitor and evaluate student and academic services operations and processes, assess service quality, recommend improvements, and prepare related reports
- Collect and analyze data and statistics related to student services, summarize findings, prepare reports, and make recommendations
- Work with the Academic Success Counselor, student services advisors, and coordinators across campuses and the District Office to enhance services for students
- Assist in developing, planning, and implementing student services goals and objectives and recommend procedural improvements for better service delivery
- Participate in college and community committees, workshops, meetings, training sessions, task forces, and conferences
