Position Summary :
Pima Community College offers preparation and professional truck driver classes for Commercial Driver Licenses (CDL). This position performs a variety of instructional duties by assisting Class A and Class B commercial driver license students in the classroom, the truck driving range and on local roads. The Instructor / Lecturer delivers instruction to students using a variety of methods in multiple settings.
As part of the interview evaluation process, candidates will be asked to present a 10-minute presentation (includes 5 minutes of Q&A time) on an industry-related topic (choose between air brakes, coupling / uncoupling, shifting, or hours of service), directed at students in this program.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Delivers instruction to students using a variety of methods; interacts with students in demonstrations; adjust teaching styles to meet the needs of a diverse student population
- Prepares syllabi, instructional materials, lesson plans, and classroom and laboratory presentations to assist students in achieving educational goals.
- Assesses student needs and goals; prepares progress reports; provides support and advocacy; meets with advisors to discuss student progress; and evaluates student progress for program continuation or completion. Uses alternative delivery methods of instruction to facilitate diverse student population
- Creates and organizes material for classroom needs. Documents student performance, progress, and attendance. Assists students to meet the schedule and rigor of course
- Prepares official records, forms, data-tracking reports, attendance reports, and related required documentation. Reads and responds to emails and other communications
- Ensures the safety of instructional staff and students during behind the wheel training on the driving range and public road.
- Participates in marketing the program and recruiting students
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor

Physical Demands :
Positions in this class typically require : talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions and fine finger movements - using the fingers to manipulate / handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating buttons, or sorting / separating small parts.
Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods or moving from one work site to another.
