Position Summary:The Lab Technician - Sciences, performs skilled technical tasks across multiple scientific disciplines under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor. Key responsibilities include preparing and breaking down classroom experiments and related exercises. Assist in the upkeep of prep lab and classroom spaces. Assist with the inventory of supplies, equipment, and other materials needed for daily operations of the lab or assigned space. Assist in the training of part-time lab technicians and student workers in experiment preparation/breakdown and prep lab/classroom maintenance, and safety procedures.The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel. Although this position is housed at the Northwest Campus, technicians may be scheduled at other campuses as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare or assist in the preparation, set up, and breakdown of laboratory experiments/demos some of which may be classified as hazardous
- Check equipment out to students in the student study areas
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe workplace following standard laboratory practices and procedures
- Inputting information into the Laboratory Information Management System
- Stock, order, and monitor laboratory supplies and equipment in the science laboratory preparation areas
- Receive, verify, and enter order information into the Laboratory Information Management System
- Attend safety training/s and report any infractions of safety procedures to the supervisor immediately
- Train, monitor, and assist student workers and volunteers under the guidance of the lab specialist
- Assist in processing experiment waste according to lab protocol following established lab standards
- Assists in maintaining current inventories using the Laboratory Information Management System
- Participates in professional development
- Participates in Division of Sciences outreach events
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor
- Associate degree in science or a closely related field of study and
- One to two years of related experience in a science laboratory and
- Valid Arizona driver license
- An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Bachelor’s degree in science or closely related field of study
- One to three years of related classroom laboratory experience in an Institution of higher learning
- Proficiency in math used in the preparation of chemical and reagent solutions
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of Federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines for working in a science laboratory
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of internal and external customer service principles and practices
- Ability to follow established protocols and safety guidelines
- Ability to operate and maintain lab equipment
- Ability to work both semi-independently and as part of a team
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously for efficient workflow
- Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
