Position Summary:The Specialist: Learning Center Content - STEM is a position that is essential for mentoring and training Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) tutors in content knowledge, coordinating discipline-specific tutor training, researching and implementing best practices in STEM tutoring, and serving as a liaison to STEM faculty and departments to coordinate services and specialized assistance. Mathematics is one of the highest volume subjects tutored at West Campus, so the Specialist: Learning Center Content - STEM should be proficient at least through Calculus 2. This position assists in the supervision of STEM tutoring at the West Campus Learning Center but is also expected to assist with other disciplines as needed.The focus of the Learning Center is to provide subject specific support for all students, and this position will be responsible for focusing on STEM fields, including students from all majors, degree and non-degree seeking students, and students in Developmental Education and advanced-level courses. The Specialist: Learning Center Content - STEM will work under the direction of the Assistant Program Manager.The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in supervising and supporting tutors and serves as a lead to additional department staff. Prioritizes and assigns work, assists in conducting performance evaluations, mentors, coaches, and trains tutors. Makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations for tutors
- Serves as an outreach and marketing liaison to tutors, students, and science, technology, engineering, and math department faculty to provide consistent information and strategies relating to tutoring and learning assistance programming
- Assists in overseeing Learning Center operations for students, staff, and faculty during operating hours. Ensures appropriate STEM content is being tutored and adherence to Learning Center guidelines
- Provides direct assistance in one or more STEM disciplines and learning skills assistance to students
- Develops instructional media for specific content areas and coordinates orientations and presentations to faculty, students, and staff on Learning Center resources and other learning assistance strategies
- Proposes, develops, coordinates, and implements new and existing Learning Center procedures, guidelines, goals, objectives, and activities to enhance programs
- Conducts research for new and expanding programs to keep informed of program trends and best practices
- Assembles, compiles, and analyzes data and findings for incorporation into reports
- Responds to inquiries from supervisor, staff, faculty, students
- Frequently work under own initiative with limited supervision
- Perform related duties as assigned by Assistant Program Manager
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level to support student success
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or a closely related field of study and
- One to three years of tutoring related experience and
- Proficient in Mathematics, at least through Calculus 2
- An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Master’s Degree with a major in STEM or related field
- Three to five years of tutoring related experience with college level tutoring
- CRLA ITTPC tutoring Certificate or equivalent
- Knowledge of one or more STEM disciplines
- Knowledge of Mathematics, at least through Calculus
- Knowledge of Google Suite
- Knowledge of the principles and practices used in effectively training and mentoring tutors and students
- Knowledge of various instructional methodologies
- Skill in budget/resource management
- Skill in coordinating and monitoring the work of others
- Skill in effective communication
- Skill in positive, productive, and flexible customer service
- Skill in basic record keeping
- Ability to apply effective and accurate data entry and typing skills
