Under the direction of the Aquatics Management Team, the Lifeguard III (Pool Supervisor) is responsible for managing the lifeguard team and executing the daily operations, programming, cleaning, training, and safety at the aquatic facility assigned. Occasionally, this position assists with recreation special events and Lifeguard training of the recreation team.
Essential Functions:

Supervises and conducts swimming lessons in accordance with the Starfish Aquatics Institute methods and procedures;
Supervises Lifeguard team and all activities at assigned public swimming pool, which includes rule and behavior enforcement;
Conducts swimming lessons in accordance with the Starfish Aquatics Institute methods and procedures;
Oversees activities at a public swimming pool which includes rule and behavior enforcement;
Conducts surveillance duties while on stand and intervenes with appropriate water rescues and skills;
Administers first aid including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED);
Maintains facility sanitation, cleaning, vacuuming, and routine maintenance, which includes testing pool water for chemical balance and may be trained to add basic chemicals into the swimming pool;Â
Prepares and monitors work schedules of lifeguard team;Â
Oversees and may instruct a variety of pool programming including lifeguard certification training, swim lesson instructor certification training, junior lifeguarding, swim team, etc.;
Prepares and conducts regular in-service training for the Lifeguard team;
Prepares, reviews and submits various records, logs and reports to supervisor as necessary;
Supervises and administers the recording of daily participation numbers, collecting basic daily revenue, reconciling daily revenue, and making nightly deposits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current certification as American Red Cross Lifeguard AND successful completion of a Pima County held Starfish Aquatics Institute – Swim Instructor certification (SSI) OR successful completion of a Pima County held Starfish Aquatics Institute – Swim Instructor certification (SSI) AND one season (60 days = season) of experience as a Lifeguard.

Selection Procedure :
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

License and Certificates: Â Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate on date of appointment for this position. Successful completion of a Pima County held Starfish Aquatics Swim Instructor certification is required within the first six(6) months of appointment. Failure to obtain/maintain both required certifications for this position within the provided timeframe shall be grounds for termination
Special Notice Items: Â Per Administrative Procedures 23-31, certified Lifeguard applicants may be employed at age fifteen and six months (15.5) for the purpose of on-boarding and attending required in-house trainings, but will not work as a functional Lifeguard providing surveillance and supervision of a County-owned public swimming pool until age sixteen (16). As a condition of employment or continued employment, positions within this classification may be required to submit to a criminal history background check with state and federal agencies pursuant to A.R.S. 41-1750 and Public Law 92-544.
