Be a part of a team of park maintenance professionals keeping Pima County Parks clean and safe. The selected candidate will lead staff in journey-level new construction, maintenance, and repair of park facilities relying on high-level trade skills. Duties may include earthwork, heavy equipment operation, welding, irrigation, masonry, carpentry, fencing, painting, and/or new construction. Candidates must have experience in reading design plans/as-builts, calculating material, and ability to lead a team of staff. Â
The Parks Coordinator II leads and oversees the work of other employees providing specialized or advanced maintenance. This position requires advanced or highly specialized technical knowledge and abilities.
Essential Functions:

Participates, and leads staff in the skilled analysis and repair of equipment, park systems and construction projects;
Performs operational and preventive maintenance of complex facilities, equipment and/or park systems;
Operates specialized equipment and may require CDL;
Performs journey-level tasks of the parks and recreation specialization;
Provides leadership in the absence of the work center supervisor;
Leads, delegates, oversees Park Coordinator I, Park Specialist I, II, Park Technician I, II or Park Helper with maintenance or project activities;
Performs quality-control analysis on equipment, supported systems, turf management, ball field preparation, and all other park assets contained in assigned property;
Maintains comprehensive activity, operations, service and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment and systems;
Prepares oral and written activity reports;
Monitors contractor performance;
Some positions may be assigned to a natural resource park setting with duties including leading and training team members in skilled maintenance in environmentally sensitive locations, historic restoration, fencing, equestrian complex, camping facilities, ponds, trails, adobe buildings, habitat restoration, erosion control and invasive species.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in parks and recreation, landscape management, facility operations, or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment PLUS two years of journey-level experience.
(Substitution of five years of journey-level experience including one year of lead or supervisory experience in the trade, craft or operational area required expertise may substitute for completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program)
OR:
Three years of experience with Pima County as a Parks Specialist I, II or Park Coordinator I.

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum five (5) years experience in landscape, park, construction, or turf maintenance.
Minimum three (3) years experience in irrigation and/or building maintenance/repair.
Minimum three (3) years experience in operating powered lights and heavy equipment (Ex. tractor, grader, skid steer/tool cat, boom sprayer, aerifier, etc.).
Minimum three (3) years experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
Minimum three (3) years experience in supervising staff in the field of landscape, golf, park, or turf maintenance.
Possess a certification in any of the following: Playground Safety Inspector, International Society of Arboriculture-Arborist, Arizona Department of Agriculture/Office of Pesticide Management Core, and/or Category 3 applicator license.
Selection Procedure :
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process. Â

Licenses and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application.  Valid AZ  driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment, or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Some positions require AZ Department of Agriculture-Office of Pesticide Management – Certified Applicator license (Core and Category #3-Ornamental and Turf) at the time of appointment or must obtain prior to completion of initial/promotional probation period (6-months).
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing.
