Pima County Shooting Sports is looking for a person with firearms experience to join the Shooting Sports team as a Rangemaster. This part-time/intermittent position provides safety on the shooting range to all public users and County staff, including conducting firearms and archery safety classes.
Essential Functions:

Manages, supervises and coordinates daily operation of the range;
Supervises and enforces all range firearms safety rules and regulations at the range;
Reports violations, accidents or incidents related to safety infractions and issues related to public safety and range operation to the authorities;
Makes recommendations for changes to safety procedures and future operational and management improvements;
Coordinates and conducts classes in the use and safety precautions of firearms and/or archery equipment;
Arranges shooting and other special events in coordination with other agencies;
Works directly with departmental public affairs staff and media to ensure public awareness of special events and equipment safety training;
Requisitions equipment and supplies;
Collects monies for range items sold or rented and ensures cash handling collection and financial reports and records comply with all Pima County policies, requirements and standard business practices;
Maintains records of expenditures and income collected and prepares reports;
Provides First Aid, CPR and AED response if certified to do so;
Trains, schedules and supervises volunteers in line safety, cash handling, customer service and maintenance duties;
Ensures that the facility, grounds and equipment are kept clean, orderly and well maintained;
Ensure range equipment, perimeter and supplies are secured and opening and closure procedures are followed to ensure protection and security of facility and assets;
Ensures the safe operation of shooting range facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year (2,080 hours) of experience involving the handling of rifles, handguns and/or archery equipment, coordinating competitive shooting/archery sports events, firearms or archery training and/or safety instruction or shooting range supervision.
OR:
One year of service and not less than 240 hours of experience working as a Line Safety Officer volunteer with the Pima County Shooting Sports Program AND a current National Rifle Association Range Safety Officer certification.

Selection Procedure :
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process. Â
Supplemental Information:
License and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid  AZ  driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Possession of a First Aid Certification Card is required at time of appointment or within 14 days of hire. National Rifle Association certification as Range Safety Officer is required within one year of hire or as provided by the Pima County Natural Resources Parks & Recreation Department.
Special Notice Items: Â The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
