The Intake/Triage Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the patient intake process including establishing and maintaining positive relationships with customers and referral sources, responding to customer requests and concerns. This position is a high volume phone line position and is key to the organization's success as it requires excellent customer service skills as well as critical thinking with the ability to triage patients appropriate to the current care plan as described in the patient's medical chart.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Reviews available patient information related to case, including the care plan and medication to triage the patients immediate pain management needs.
- Conferences with clinical leadership and the Medical Director regarding any questions about an individual's plan of care.
- Maintains and ensures patient information is up to date and accurate in EHR System.
- Medication Preauthorization request are completed and submitted appropriately
- Maintains comprehensive working knowledge of Pima Pain Center contractual relationships and ensures that patients are acting according to the contract provisions.
- Assists billing department with insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Reviews patient's medical diagnosis, prognosis, medications, procedures and clinical course.
- Assists clinicians in communicating the establishment of immediate and long-term therapeutic goals, in setting priorities, and the development of the plan of care.
- Triage clinical calls which come into the organization in collaboration with the appropriate Provider and/or Medicare Director.
- Decides which personnel should handle the issue when appropriate. Keeps the Provider and Medical Director apprised of patient concerns/problems as appropriate. Guides clinical staff towards solutions when appropriate.

Minimum Requirements
- Six months to a year related medical experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Reasoning ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of providers, managers, and patients.
