JOB SUMMARY

Performs professional work of moderate difficulty in providing casework services to offenders; performs other work as assigned or required.   This is a Working/Journey position, which works under general supervision.  Positions at this level are assigned a broad range of duties in the occupation.  The employee uses judgment in selecting appropriate guidelines and in applying general policies and procedures.  Significant deviations from established work processes require prior approval.  The work produced and decisions made affect non-routine operations of the work unit.  The employee applies knowledge to diversified subject matter, requiring some judgment in applying established procedures and guidelines.

  • The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries will require an internal equity review and those that are above the first quartile will require additional approval.

  •    Having been disciplined by any employer, including military, as an adult for abuse of leave, gross insubordination, dereliction of duty or persistent failure to follow established policies and regulations.

  • 'Having been involuntarily dismissed, for any reason other than layoff, from two or more employers as an adult.

  •  Having held more than seven paid positions with different employers within the past four years, or  more than 15 paid positions with different employers in the past ten years (excluding military). Students who attend school away from their permanent legal residence may be excused from this   requirement as well as other persons with a reasonable explanation for an extensive job history.

  • Resigning from any paid position without notice may be disqualifying, except where the presence of a hostile work environment is alleged or other reasonable cause existed.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:         
  • Supervises a caseload of assigned offenders.
  • Conducts interviews.
  • Conducts social investigations or assessments to determine risk factors.
  • Evaluates offender’s progress, prepares and maintains reports.
  • Develops individual offender treatment programs, establishes timelines for completion
  • Reviews and evaluates criminal records, police reports, psychiatric and psychological reports.
  • Compiles and maintains social and case histories.
  • Coordinates supervision and services with other agencies.
  • Makes referrals to other agencies.
  • Provides evidenced based interventions for individuals and groups.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
 
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES: 
  • Ability to work in a high paced atmosphere.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Services, or related field.
  • Two (2) years criminal justice or social work experience.
  • Valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Special Requirements:
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of laws, principles, and practices of offender supervision.          
  • Knowledge of principles of human behavior. 
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and community resources.           
  • Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques.                                            
  • Skilled in personal interaction, counseling and interviewing.                         
  • Ability to critically analyze individuals and situations and make sound decisions.     
  • Ability to apply the principles and methods of rehabilitation services.           
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.       
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The work also requires the ability to perform repetitive motion, hear, speak, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

Salary : $42,564 - $65,974
