We are facing significant growth as we expand our operations and service offerings across the country. We’re looking for a bright and motivated Project Engineer to join our Portland, Maine team.


As the ideal candidate, you are excited to join our project team to help our clients make informed decisions regarding property acquisitions, re-development, and contaminated sites management. In this role you will learn about the business, build your own professional network and work closely with senior professionals in the industry. The Project Engineer role is ideal for someone looking to build their skills for career advancement and professional growth. The ideal candidate will be familiar with relevant Maine regulations and have at least 2 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry.


A Day in the life of Project Engineer


  • Works on civil engineering components of a multidisciplinary project as part of a team which may include geotechnical engineers, architects, landscape architects, surveyors, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, etc.
  • Utilizes principals of hydrologic evaluation and hydraulic design, as well as site grading, roadway grading, ADA compliance, design of gravity storm drain systems, design of sanitary conveyance systems (gravity and pressure), and municipal water systems in developing designs.
  • Supports the preparation of construction bidding documents including construction drawings and specifications.
  • Compiles plan sets and documents needed to complete permitting applications to local, state, and/or federal agencies.
  • Participates in client meetings and coordinates contact with clients, as requested by Project Manager (PM).
  • Attends external meetings, including those with Planning Boards, Zoning, Selectmen, and meetings with local, state, and federal permitting agencies to support PM, as needed.
  • Keeps PM apprised of design, scheduling, or other project-related issues to ensure appropriate coordination of resources and client communication.
  • Provides monitoring or periodic inspection of on-going construction projects.
  • Performs on-site monitoring or periodic inspection of on-going construction projects.
  • Conducts on-site fieldwork to collect data to support design efforts.
  • Provides technical support for other staff during fieldwork activities which may include on-site field work (commensurate with experience/expertise).


What you bring to the Pinchin team


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil, Coastal, or Environmental Engineering preferred.
  • 2 years of professional experience.
  • Proficient using AutoCAD, HydroCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to travel with reliable transportation (Up to 75% travel within New England Region anticipated).
  • Ability to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and the ability to pass a company physical.
