Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with best practices for students with severe and profound disabilities.
- Provide direct instruction in academic, functional, and adaptive skills, incorporating augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and other assistive technologies.
- Implement evidence-based instructional strategies to support student engagement and skill development in both self-contained and inclusive settings as appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and general education staff to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to student success.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor progress and adapt instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Implement and monitor positive behavior support plans, including crisis prevention and intervention strategies.
- Provide training and guidance to paraprofessionals on instructional strategies, behavioral support, and student care needs.
- Ensure accurate and compliant documentation of student progress, services, and IEP implementation.
- Maintain open and regular communication with families, fostering collaboration in student development.
- Support student transition planning, focusing on postsecondary readiness, independent living, and vocational skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support student growth and program success.
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction tailored to the unique learning needs of students with severe and profound disabilities.
- Use visual supports, sensory strategies, and structured routines to enhance student participation and learning.
- Serve as case manager for assigned students, ensuring compliance with all special education requirements.
- Implement data-driven decision-making, collecting and analyzing progress monitoring data for IEP goals.
- Stay current with best practices and legal requirements related to severe and profound disabilities.
- Follow and enforce all district policies, state regulations, and federal special education laws.
- Understanding of special education strategies for students with severe and profound disabilities, including functional academics, communication supports, and behavior management.
- Strong ability to differentiate instruction and utilize assistive technologies to maximize student learning.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with a team of educators, therapists, and families.
- Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment.
- Commitment to student dignity, independence, and quality of life in educational and community settings.
