What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Pine Ridge Day Camp & Equestrian Center?

Responsibilities:
A counselor has the responsibility to:
*Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff
*Help campers become acquainted with other campers in your group
*Provide diverse opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences a level of success during camp
*Carry out established roles for supervising camper health
*Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations
*Supervise all assigned aspects of the camper's day
*Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, severe weather, etc..
*Help campers to take care of personal property
*Be positive in your statements to campers. Offer constructive criticism, suggestions, or instructions.
*Help campers to keep comfortably busy and active but not to the point of strain or tension. Allowing some down time will help to solve many disciplinary or behavior problems, as well as keep the group focused
*Watch for fatigue - in your campers and in yourself - stay hydrated
*Submit all required reports on time
*Campers must feel that they can accomplish tasks independently. Your job is to guide and develop their skills to plan and implement constructive activities or develop personal pursuits.
*Inspire imagination and innovation
*Be ready for rainy day with small group games, stories, etc. Make the rainy day program a special adventure instead of a disappointment.
*Watch the shift of friendships within the group and see that no one gets hurt or left out.
About Pine Ridge Day Camp & Equestrian Center
Just 20 minutes from South Huntsville, Pine Ridge Day Camp is located on 120 acres in Somerville, AL. The day camp offers summer camp sessions for children in North Alabama, including equestrian camps. Campers enjoy fun-filled days of activities including zip lining, hiking, archery, caving, arts & crafts, horseback riding, and other camp favorites. Summer camp sessions are held from May through August and are available in 1-week increments . Campers range from four-year-olds to children who have completed the 8th grade. As a day camp, the campers are able to gain the experience of camp without having to leave home.
