The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting various departments within the finance team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the different functions of a finance department, helping to build a strong foundation in financial management.
The Staff Accountant will engage in a variety of accounting tasks, including accounting operations, contract accounting and compliance, payroll administration, and financial planning. During the first 6-9 months, the accountant will gain exposure to the distinct functions of each department.
Additionally, the Staff Accountant will participate in key finance projects, such as audits, budgeting, and special initiatives. This role will also involve providing support during peak audit and budget seasons and filling in for absent staff members.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Perform reclassification journal entries
- Complete account reconciliations for various accounts
- Assist with accounts payable processes
- Prepare check deposits and record to appropriate revenue and/or receivable accounts on the general ledger
- Participate in the completion of budgets and forms to renew existing and apply for new contracts from federal and state agencies
- Perform ongoing monitoring and maintenance of government contracts
- Reconcile monthly revenue and receivables between billing and GL for completeness
- Assist with reporting and compliance activities for various programs
- Complete updates to employee records related to payroll
- Ensure timesheets are properly completed by personnel and approved by supervisors
- Prepare the processing of biweekly payroll
- Assist with reconciling payroll bank account
- Assist in the development of PSI's annual budget, considering inputs from various departments and stakeholders
- Maintain a comprehensive database to track all vendor contracts and support with setup of contract database
- Work with all departments to gather and maintain existing vendor contracts, ensuring accurate records and compliance.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 0-2 years of accounting experience in non profit
- Proficiency in accounting software and database management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
