Resident Associate

Supervised By: Nursing Supervisor

Supervises: None

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, provides assistance to the residents with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and other activities of daily living. Performs housekeeping as well as laundry duties to assure a safe and healthful living environment for residents of Pinecrest.

Pinecrest Farms offers a $1.00 an hour shift differential, $2.00 an hour weekend pay, as well as accrued time off. This position has a two-week repeating schedule with the pay period beginning on Saturday.

Essential Job Functions:

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Performs housekeeping tasks, including but not limited to, changing bed linens, dusting, sweeping and mopping rooms, and emptying wastebaskets.
  • Launders clothes for residents.
  • Performs general custodial tasks, including but not limited to, operating a vacuum to clean carpets, sweeping and mopping floors and hallways, cleaning and tidying lounges, moving furniture, and cleaning windows. Cleans bathrooms, including cleaning bathroom fixtures, shower stalls, disinfecting sinks, showers, and toilets, and replenishing supplies. Washes walls, furniture, and woodwork.
  • Assists with feeding residents. Sets tables, serves meals to residents, and monitors dining area during meals. Clears and wipes off tables and chairs, sweeps and mops dining area, and cleans kitchen. Performs cooking tasks, including providing alternative meal choices for residents.
  • Assists residents with personal hygiene, including waking residents, supplying towels for bathing, helping residents who require assistance with bathing, shaving, dressing, and other personal needs.
  • Performs a variety of caregiver tasks, including but not limited to, performing doctor ordered treatments, assisting with a variety of daily living activities, reporting changes in behavior and injuries to the on-duty nurse, assisting with transferring and lifting residents, and taking vitals of residents as needed.
  • Performs regular wellness and safety checks of all residents. Charts specific tasks and observations for residents utilizing an electronic documentation system.
  • Assists in transporting residents to appointments, and other scheduled activities as needed.
  • Ensures residents receive meals and medication on time, and prepared for appointments, work, and meetings.
  • Performs post-mortem care, including comforting residents, family, and friends after the loss of life.
  • Responds frequently to interruptions in the work schedule to address the needs of the residents.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements include the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience performing housekeeping tasks preferably in a nursing home environment.
  • The County, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of long-term facility care and cleanliness.
  • Knowledge of sanitary procedures and practices, human behavior, observing and caring for long-term care residents, and basic office procedures.
  • Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with County employees, contractors to the County, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, residents and family members and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to learn the office equipment and basic Microsoft Suite programs and databases for purposes of accessing and entering resident data.
  • Ability to attend to duties scheduled at times other than normal business hours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear and view written documents. The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools and may climb ladders or uneven surfaces. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, such as to operate equipment. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 50 lbs. without assistance and be physically able to assist residents. Accommodation will be made, as needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight.
