About the Position
We are seeking a certified Social Studies Teacher to work with middle and/or high school students in a supportive, structured setting. You will design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that foster critical thinking, empathy, and civic awareness, all while meeting the unique needs outlined in students’ IEPs.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Engagement
- Design differentiated, active learning experiences in American/World History
- Incorporate varied instructional strategies, technology, and materials to reach all learners
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages curiosity and student voice
Student Support & Classroom Management
- Modify curriculum based on students’ strengths and needs
- Uphold behavioral expectations aligned with the school’s structured behavior management program
- Supervise and support students throughout the day, working as part of a team to guide student success
Collaboration & Compliance
- Work closely with supervisors, clinicians, crisis intervention, paraprofessionals, related and student caregivers
- Participate in IEP development, progress reporting, and parent/caregiver communication
- Engage in school-wide meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies or related field (American/World History focus)
- NJDOE CE, CEAS, Provisional, or Standard Certificate as a Teacher of Social Studies
- TOSD endorsement (or willingness to obtain) preferred
- Experience working with students with disabilities or in alternative settings is a plus
- Strong classroom management, differentiated instruction, and relationship-building skills
