About Pineland Learning Center

Pineland Learning Center is a NJDOE-approved private school for students with disabilities, serving grades K–12 since 1980. We specialize in supporting students with emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities through trauma-informed practices, collaborative partnerships, and a strong school culture rooted in empathy and growth.

About the Position

We are seeking a certified Social Studies Teacher to work with middle and/or high school students in a supportive, structured setting. You will design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that foster critical thinking, empathy, and civic awareness, all while meeting the unique needs outlined in students’ IEPs.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Engagement

Student Support & Classroom Management

  • Modify curriculum based on students’ strengths and needs
  • Uphold behavioral expectations aligned with the school’s structured behavior management program
  • Supervise and support students throughout the day, working as part of a team to guide student success

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with supervisors, clinicians, crisis intervention, paraprofessionals, related and student caregivers
  • Participate in IEP development, progress reporting, and parent/caregiver communication
  • Engage in school-wide meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies or related field (American/World History focus)
  • NJDOE CE, CEAS, Provisional, or Standard Certificate as a Teacher of Social Studies
  • TOSD endorsement (or willingness to obtain) preferred
  • Experience working with students with disabilities or in alternative settings is a plus
  • Strong classroom management, differentiated instruction, and relationship-building skills

Why Choose Pineland?

A Supportive and Celebrated Workplace

  • Team-based culture with strong administrative support
  • Staff appreciation initiatives including MVP awards, birthday celebrations, and year-end events

  • Annual professional development budget for conferences and training
  • Flexibility to craft and customize curriculum and instruction to reflect your strengths, expertise, and student needs, empowering you to respond directly to your students rather than follow a scripted program

  • Paid sick time, jury duty, bereavement leave, and holidays
