What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Equipment Operator 2 (Excavator Operator) position at Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller?

Work location for this position is 22211 US Hwy., 19, Clearwater, FL with a work schedule of Monday - Thursday 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM.
What Would You Do?
- Assist construction crews in performing all construction related activities including frequent heavy manual labor.
- Operation of small excavator, backhoe, front end loader, tractors to remediate or repair canals and ditches.
- Supervises assigned operators and other personnel to accomplish safe, productive and efficient work tasks.
- Loading and unloading of heavy equipment.
- Transport of equipment to work sites.
- Establish sub grades and finished grades to engineering layout specifications.
- Set up barricades and safety signs.
- Follow assignments, complete timesheets and paperwork.
- Responsible for equipment and materials stocked in multiple locations.
- 6 months experience in the operation of an Excavator; or
- A Public Works Academy training certificate for equipment operators; or
- A Pinellas County employee equipment certification that includes experience or training on an Excavator; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License 'B' at the time of hire.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Must obtain and maintain a Florida Department of Transportation Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate Level Certificate within 6 months depending on class availability.
- Must complete Illicit Discharge, Spill Prevention, and Response Training; ICS 100, 200 & 700 Training; Erosion & Sediment Control within 6-12 months.
- Must complete OSHA 30 hour Construction Industry training.
- Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position.
- Experience operating small excavators
- Erosion Control Certification
- Possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License "A" and endorsement, if any.
- Operate basic trucks or a variety of small gasoline-powered machinery and equipment
- Operate a wide variety of other equipment/tools, i.e., chain saws, weed eaters, pole saws, etc
- Knowledge of stormwater drainage principles, methods, materials and equipment
- Skill in the operation of heavy automotive and construction equipment.
- Ability to complete accurate accident or other routine reports.
- Ability to work under adverse weather conditions and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor.
- Knowledge of limitations and safety precautions related to heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform equipment maintenance.
- Ability to maintain accurate records of scheduled work projects and the status of a variety of construction, services, and maintenance projects.
- Ability to performs related work as assigned or required.
