What are the responsibilities and job description for the Craftworker position at Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller?

Public Works Stormwater Operations is currently seeking to fill a Craftworker 1 position within the County’s permitted pond work force. The Stormwater Operations Craftworker 1 position performs advanced level journeyman work involving performance of moderately complex assignments and demonstrates the necessary skills to safely and effectively keep ponds in compliance and functioning properly. The Craftworker 1 performs at least one specialized line of work, and the work frequently involves mastering assignments in a recognized skill or multiple skills. Employees are expected to perform semi-independently on assigned work to remove sediment, identify invasive species, and the installation of turbidity and erosion control devices at permitted sites. Other related tasks such as brush clearing, structure repair and operating specialized equipment. Duties may require the employee to serve in a lead capacity on either a regular or incidental basis.
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
What Would You Do?
- Performs job related tasks and assignments to production measures reliably and dependably.
- Completes tasks to established specifications and/or standards accurately and completely.
- Loads and secures equipment/supplies on a trailer and transports to job site.
- Installs and maintains turbidity and erosion control.
- Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of water and drainage systems.
- Detects problems and repairs and maintains special tools, equipment, and accessories machinery and equipment.
- Perform landscape maintenance and vegetation control.
- Receives, stores, issues and controls departmental tools, supplies and materials inventory.
- Effectively trains others in proper MOT (TTC) setup for worksite safety.
- Effectively communicates with the team and demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions.
- Retrieves, reports, and communicates on the status of work assignments using administrative, computer and other means of reporting
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
- 3 years of skilled craft or trade experience in public works operations; or
- Completion of a two-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 1 year of experience in public works operations.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Must obtain a Temporary Traffic Control (TTC formerly MOT) certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class "B" license at time of hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
- An understanding and consistent practice of Pinellas County Public Works safety expectations, safe equipment, vehicle operation and worksite setup.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Other highly desirable knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials relevant to a position.
- Florida Commercial Driver’s License A preferred.
- MOT certification preferred.
- Knowledge of maintenance of traffic operations and roadway hazard mitigation for flagging traffic.
- Ability to understand and implement county policies and procedures and embrace the department's foundational values.
- Ability to verbally communicate with the team and supervisors.
- Ability to take both written and verbal communication and direction and successfully complete an assigned task.
