CLASSROOM
The most important responsibility of Pinkerton teachers is carried out in the classroom. The primary roles of teachers in the classroom are to teach, facilitate learning, and mentor students so that they become independent, critical thinkers. Teachers are encouraged to use a variety of techniques to convey knowledge to and/or develop skills in their students using Pinkerton Vision for Instruction to guide practice. By their example, teachers should foster responsible, courteous, and respectful behavior in their students. Teachers will provide a positive, challenging, and supportive environment; effective instruction; and appropriate assessment and evaluation.
Teachers are expected to:
- Establish clear and accurate grading procedures which are made known to the students and administration at the beginning of the course.
- Monitor the progress of the students and issue reports when appropriate.
- Keep an accurate attendance record for all students.
- Utilize the appropriate and available resources of the Academy (library, computers, AV, etc.).
- Be available to students outside of classroom time.
- Communicate with struggling students multiple times throughout the class and, when students are unreceptive to the assistance, contact parents.
