Medical Assistant Job Description
Provide direct patient care in support of 1-2 providers on a primary care team. Enhance provider capabilities through implementation of disease and preventive management protocols for individual patients. Facilitate the overall care coordination of patients by tracking referrals, obtaining test results, processing paperwork, processing medical records, and facilitating direct communication between the patient and their care team. In addition to direct patient care, the medical assistant will perform other job duties as required such as completing required training, enrolling and processing new patients, keeping up to date on licensures and certificates, and performing special duties as assigned such as the HIPPA compliance officer or lab oversight. The medical assistant will be responsible for ensuring smooth patient flow and scheduling for their assigned providers.
Direct patient care activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Scheduling biometric and demographic screening, collection and documentation of patient data, proactive preventive services screening, performs and documents treatments & diagnostics ordered by the PCP such as POC testing, nebulizer treatments, intramuscular medications, etc. Patient discharge education & coordination of patient flow through the clinic consultation management via routing and tracking the referrals, management of patient-initiated virtual requests, scheduling and triage of patients' complaints, exam room management, provide chaperone services as needed, draw blood, giving immunizations, other clinical support activities as directed by provider within MA’s scope of practice
Administrative activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Processing of records (sending, receiving, uploading), enrollment of patients (review of legal documents, patient training of navigation through Pinnacle to include use of EHR system, and scheduling appointments). Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and clinic, billing and invoicing of patients, answering phone calls
Daily Task List
1. Prepare for every patient visit, ensuring that all needed supplies are available & services can be provided.
2. Direct patient care, to include, but not limited to medication delivery, procedure assistance, POCT, immunizations, blood draws, PO/IM medications, ear irrigations, wart treatments, etc.
3. Complete forms prior to provider seeing patient (school physical, DME request, handicap decal forms, etc.)
4. Manage Elation Passport patient requests in collaboration with PCP.
5. Screen patients when necessary to include vital signs, questionnaires, and begin charting for visits
6. Check patients out and ensure that all tasks have been completed to include labs, medications dispensed, booking follow-up visits, and any post-visit education needed.
7. Collect and review PCP assigned faxes or other distribution to include shred and outbox
8. Transfer and scan pertinent information from paper records into Elation
9. Additional duties as assigned (AED checks, POCT controls, inventory management, room cleaning, etc.)
10. Provide patient education (using handouts) for team provider’s patients.
11. Stock rooms to include procedure, exam, hallway procedure processing center, lab, etc.
Requirements
- Credentials
BLS and CMA or RMA (preferred but not required)
- Education High School Diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or Certificate of RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) or CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) required or completed within 90 days of hire.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
