Job Overview:
The Boilermaker will perform a wide range of boiler and pressure vessel repairs and fabrication in both shop and field settings. This role requires technical expertise, precision, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform re-tubing on fire-tube and water-tube boilers, as well as heat exchangers.
- Remove and replace refractory materials on boilers and dryers.
- Fabricate and install new or replacement components and equipment.
- Remove and replace insulation and casing on boilers.
- Read and interpret instructions, blueprints, and work orders to plan and execute tasks efficiently.
- Plan and coordinate tools, equipment, and materials needed for each job.
- Communicate effectively with customers, ensuring satisfaction before, during, and upon completion of each job.
- Adhere to safety practices and company policies, actively supporting a culture of safety.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a clean and orderly condition.
- Participate in training programs, seminars, and ongoing education as requested.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior employees.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Welding education or certifications strongly preferred.
- Ability to pass a 6G 6010 root, 7018 cap on 2" schedule 80 pipe is strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven welding experience, including the use of welding, cutting, and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to fabricate by cutting, burning, and welding various metals.
- Experience with layout, fitting, and insulating materials.
- Strong understanding of boiler and pressure vessel systems, including inspection techniques.
- Ability to perform insulation and refractory work.
- Experience using electronic tools, including ultrasonic thickness testers and air monitors.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 51 lbs. continually and 75-80 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions.
- Possess good vision (corrected or uncorrected).
- Comfortable stooping, bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, and working on overhead structures and scaffolds.
- Ability to enter a boiler through the manway.
- Must wear personal protective equipment, including welding shields and safety gear.
