Speech Therapist Position Overview:
The Speech Therapist (ST) is responsible for providing skilled speech-language pathology services to patients in their homes. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders to help patients regain communication and functional abilities. The ST works under physician direction and collaborates with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, including Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) evaluations
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on physician orders
- Provide therapy interventions to improve speech, language, voice, cognition, and swallowing function
- Educate patients and families on therapy techniques, communication strategies, and treatment expectations
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care
- Document patient progress, treatment outcomes, and any changes in condition in a timely and accurate manner
- Supervise Home Health Aides when speech therapy is the primary discipline involved in care
- Participate in care plan updates and revisions, ensuring alignment with patient needs and physician directives
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Speech Therapy program
- Licensed Speech Therapist in the state of Florida
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in speech therapy (home health experience preferred)
- Current BLS Certification
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
- Strong communication, observational, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently with self-motivation and excellent time management
