Mechanical Designer II (CAD)

Position Summary

This is a sustaining engineering position responsible for creating and revising engineering documentation of new products and maintaining current ones by generating technical documentation for fabricated and purchased components as well as assembly of products and optimizing production processes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Generate 3D CAD models and full 2D fabrication / assembly drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks for legacy products and support on new product designs.
  • Modify existing products and generate new drawings that include fabricated parts, instructions, assembly drawings, and cost.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement continuous improvement opportunities for existing products, production, and assembly processes.
  • Reverse-engineer legacy products and document as required.
  • Troubleshoot and solve design and production problems.
  • Analyze technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Generate and maintain product Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Generate and maintain Manufacturing routings for in-house fabrication parts.
  • Utilize the DDM system to organize, manage, and track designs throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Implement Engineering Change Orders.
  • Work with Purchasing to secure technical information from suppliers in a timely fashion.
  • Provide formal and regular feedback to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Generate information and documentation in support of Sales as required
  • Work according to all set safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned within timelines.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent education and experience
  • 2-5 years experience in product design in a metal fabrication and assembly operation environment
  • Highly proficient in 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and drawing preparation using SolidWorks CAD software
  • Experience with PDM and / or DDM product data management systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of ERP system preferred
